Hello, I'm Mike Lawrence and the owner of The Woodcarver's Cabin. I originally started the web site in the early days of the Internet and have maintained it ever since. It was one of the first Woodcarving sites on the web. Woodcarving for me fits the dictionary definition of a serious hobby. As listed in "dictonary.com", the definition is as follows, "an activity or interest pursued for pleasure or relaxation and not as a main occupation". I do have other hobbies and interests but I have never wandered far from carving since I first became seriously interested in it in 1990. Since that time I have tried to improve my skills as much as possible. I like many others before me started my collection of books and resources in an effort to learn what I could about the art. Yes, it is an art. Something to be studied, tried and improved upon. I also began my collection of knives and other woodcarving tools. My collection after these past 17 years has become fairly large and I do have many tools that I have used only briefly and put aside in search of just the right tool, which can at times be rather elusive. This is one reason that a new woodcarver is better served to join a woodcarving club or organization if possible to learn from those with experience in not only carving but also in the acquiring of good and proper tools. If a club you can visit is not close by look for someone with experience from whom you can seek advice. I may be of some help in that respect. So if you have a question about how to go about carving a particular project or which tool or brand of tool would be best, I would be glad to give you my opinion. It will be only my opinion but I will base my opinion on my experience. So if you have a question, by all means don’t hesitate to e-mail me. If I don’t know the answer I probably know someone who does.

I hope you like my web site and check back often. I’m always looking for ways to improve the site and make it more interesting to anyone interested in what can be done with wood. So if you have any suggestions or would like to see something added to the site that is not presently included please e-mail me with your suggestion. If you have a woodcarving event that you would like me to list let me know about that as well.
