Projects
Making a Simple Decoy
Read this article and see how I make a simple decoy duck from
one inch boards that are readily available in any lumber store.
Making a Keepsake Chest
Check out this article to see how I go
about making a very nice keepsake chest from a rough piece of basswood board.
Chip carving is used in this project.
Reproduction Of Carousel Rounding Board
This was a lengthly project that I
worked on for a year and a half. It is on display in the C. W. Parker Carousel
Museum in Leavenworth, Kansas. I started on this project in April 2006 and
completed it on September 17, 2007. Check out this article to learn more about
the project and see the stages of the work.
Making a Sign In
Relief
A short article with photos of
a commission carving I did for Megan. It is a relief carved sign of a
deer with the name of a person superimposed over the subject.
Relief Carved Nametag
I needed a handcarved nametag so I thought
about what I might carve that would be just a little different.
Since I have been known to have been somewhat associated with
trains, I chose this old steam engine locomotive.
Relief Carved Keepsake Chest
The carving on this Keepsake Chest is a reproduction of the locomotive "Leavenworth."
Some interesting history is associated with the Locomotive. Click on the image to go to a short article about the carving.
Cypress Knee Santa
Here we have a knee from a cypress tree grown in the swamps of Georgia. Beautiful carvings can come from these unusual growths.
When you look at one of these rough knees a subject will almost jump out at you. Then its up to the carver to free him from the knee. In this short article you can see the major steps I took to carve this cypress knee Santa.
Acoustic Guitar
Well, it's not exactly a "woodcarving", however a lot of woodcarving was involved. I just completed this
project. It took 4 months of hard work, including many long days and late nights. Click on the photo at right to

Cowboy Boot
Here is a really simple project. I think it's one of the easiest to carve. I like to use
basswood, cedar, popular, or pine. Click on the link above to go to the project:

Carved Golf Ball
This coal miner took a while to develop and carve. Although I was never a coalminer, I have several
family members who are. It's was almost as much fun to develop as it was to carve. Click on the link above to go to the project:
A Taste Of Leavenworth
Here is a taste of Leavenworth. I wouldn't care to taste it and the rat don't like it much either. I carved it for and donated it to the Taste of Leavenworth, a fundraiser for the Leavenworth Historical Society. I had a lot of fun designing and carving it! If you want to see the full carving
